Jodi serves within the Arotahi team as Accounts Support. She fellowships at Manukau City Baptist Church.

In partnership with the Bangladesh Baptist Church Fellowship (BBCF), Arotahi (formerly NZBMS) opened their first student home 40 years ago. Over time the ministry grew, and today Arotahi support five homes in partnership with BBCF.

The student homes offer a secure and supportive environment for children to thrive together. They are located near main schools, ensuring that children from rural villages, who are often marginalised, have access to the education they deserve.

By the end of 2025, Arotahi committed to sponsoring 120 students across the five homes. There is still a need for another 27 students to be picked up in sponsorship.

New to Student or Home Sponsorship?

There are two ways NZ Baptist families can participate in the student sponsorship ministry, Student Sponsorship and Home Sponsorship.

1) Student Sponsorship supports an individual student.  For $85 a month, NZ families can be part of a life-changing story. Paired with a student, there is opportunity to write letters and have two Zoom meetings per year with the home.

2) Home Sponsorship is a financial donation towards the upkeep and maintenance of one of the five Bangladeshi Homes. The suggested financial contribution is from $50 per month. Home Sponsorship is an important part of the support for the students and goes towards filling unmet needs. Sponsors can still enjoy connection with the students by receiving all sponsorship updates and invitations to the two Zoom meetings a year.

Sponsorship Support Role Opportunity

An opportunity has arisen for the right person to serve as Sponsorship Support.

After many years of service Angela Cossey is stepping down from the role. We would like to sincerely thank Angela for the fantastic work she has done. She has served faithfully and helped streamline processes for a smoother transition to the next person who takes on this role.

This volunteer role typically involves 1–3 hours per week (however the time can vary week to week) and includes the following tasks:

  • Connecting new sponsors with children in Bangladesh.
  • Emailing letters between sponsors and children (three times per year)
  • Posting photos to sponsors once a year
  • Hosting two Zoom meetings per year (some IT confidence is helpful)
  • Responding to sponsor queries.
  • Liaising with Accounts (Jodi), IT Admin (David) and Communications (Jasmine)

If you are interested in supporting our students in this way, please contact Jodi at [email protected].
